Energy utilization Manager

Reporting to the Manager, Energy Products and Services, this position is responsible for providing technical and market expertise along with guidance on customer applications for natural gas use with a focus on energy efficiency and conservation through Demand Side Management (DSM) Programs for Fortis BC?s natural gas residential, commercial and industrial customer segments.
This opportunity will be of interest to experienced technical professionals seeking to apply their in-depth understanding of end-use natural gas applications, energy modelling and their enthusiasm for customer energy efficiency, in a dynamic program development and management role.
Working with customers, members of the Conservation and Energy Management (C&EM) Team, industry experts, program partners and others, the Energy Utilization Manager?s key responsibilities will include the following:
? Conduct energy modelling and building simulation methodologies and practices for energy use
? Conduct building energy consumption analysis and review and validate Measurement & Verification studies.
? Take responsibility for the technical elements and validation of C&EM Program activities at FortisBC, including compliance with engineering practices, regulatory guidelines and applicable economic test models
? Make recommendations for market or technical research projects
? Participate in C&EM program evaluations and program improvement initiatives
? Assessment of potential participants in evaluating their suitability as potential participants into the C&EM Commercial and Industrial energy conservation programs
? Assume lead role in provision of natural gas end-use applications advice to customers, contractors and vendors
? Initiate and lead industry initiatives to encourage the efficient use of natural gas
? Prepare and present C&EM plans and reports to regulatory authorities and program partners
? Provide end-use gas equipment expertise to other FortisBC departments
? Manage operational and program C&EM budgets as required
? The role will involve performing post installation site inspections as required
? The monitoring, assessment and analysis of building codes, applicable by-laws and appliance standards changes
Education and Experience:
? Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences (with an emphasis on building mechanical system) or an equivalent Building Science Professional Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution from a recognized post-secondary institution and a minimum of four (4) years experience in end-use application of natural gas and in energy modeling, building design, and code compliance.
? Current registration in BC or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred.
? Demonstrated in-depth understanding of end-use natural gas applications, mechanical systems and HVAC equipment
? Advanced current knowledge of residential, commercial and industrial natural gas equipment operating principles, including fuel combustion equipment and energy distribution
? Knowledge of current methodologies and design practices in building architecture, engineering, and building construction.
? Knowledge of building envelope design principles and practices.
? Advanced current knowledge of energy management techniques (related to energy efficiency) in residential and commercial applications
? Experience in energy modelling for buildings
? Current knowledge of BC building codes and appliance regulations would be preferable
? Knowledge of building simulation methodologies and practices
? Demonstrated understanding of end-use energy economics and market factors in BC
? Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
? Excellent communication (written, oral, presentation) skills
? Demonstrated organizational skills with high level of initiative, judgment and results orientation
